Stand at the stern of the canoe and feel the spray of the future biting at your face Mō te tūnga | About the role The Major Operations Group are looking for a professional, dynamic and innovative person to join them in the role of District Search and Rescue (SAR) Assistant Coordinator.

The successful applicant will be based in the Central Police District and will join a high performing team of Police and partner agencies focused on saving lives, preventing or minimising injuries and operating safely. This is a non-operational role that does not deploy in the field to search for a missing party.
As a District SAR Assistant Coordinator, you will work in a supportive and collegial environment where you will have a significant part to play in leading, developing and building the potential of SAR in our organisation. While you will report to a Team Leader based at Police National Headquarters in Wellington, daily you will work alongside the Palmerston North based Police Central District SAR Coordinator.
You will be responsible for providing support to Police SAR leadership and for maintaining and building on the strong existing relationships Police have with partner agencies involved in SAR within the community. You will also work collaboratively with the other District SAR Assistant Coordinators supporting the development of better practice.
Key Accountabilities: Assist and support the Police District SAR Coordinator to ensure district compliance with SAR policy, and health and safety requirements. Support the planning and delivery of district SAR activities including prevention, training, and operational response.
Maintain accurate records and provide reporting on SAR matters. proven ability to foster and grow professional relationships. experience in using databases and ensuring accuracy of information. experience or knowledge of SAR practices, process in an operational environment would be advantageous. Whilst this position is based in Palmerston North travel within the Central Police District is required.
