Rural Operations & Reporting Lead
This is not a corporate desk job.
And it’s not general admin.
We are looking for someone who understands farming and cares about detail.
About the Role
The purpose of this role is simple:
To ensure our farms run with strong reporting discipline, clean financial systems, and no loose ends.
You will work directly with the owner and farm managers to ensure numbers reconcile, reporting is completed on time, and compliance obligations are kept current.
The role is hybrid and based in Te Awamutu, with occasional on-farm visits as required.
What You’ll Be Responsible For- Reporting & Operational Rhythm
- Preparing monthly farm reporting packs
- Updating performance dashboards
- Drafting variance commentary
- Tracking action items month to month
- Financial Accuracy
- Payroll oversight
- Xero reconciliations
- Contract payment checks
- Ensuring stock reconciliations align with financial reporting
- Coordinating H&S meetings and records
- Maintaining employment and contract registers
- Ensuring NAIT and stock documentation is tidy and current
- Visiting farms periodically
- Querying inconsistencies calmly and directly
- Making sure that the detail is correct across the operation
Who This Role Would Suit:
A capable farmer with their own operation under control who wants variety and part-time responsibility
A highly organised rural administrator who already runs payroll, NAIT, GST and reporting
Someone stepping back from full-time farming but still wanting involvement
What matters most is not your title. It is your mindset.
You Will Likely Be:
- Detail-oriented and methodical
- Comfortable reconciling numbers properly
- Confident asking questions when things do not add up
- Able to learn new systems quickly (Halter, MINDA, Xero, etc.)
- Self-directed and disciplined
- Happy to be accountable for your role and KPI's
If you describe yourself as “big picture but not into detail,” this role will not suit.
The Opportunity
This is a foundational role in a growing rural business.
For the right person, the role can remain a strong back-office control function or grow into a broader Group Operations Manager position over time.
Hours are flexible but will average 20 hours per week, with heavier involvement around month-end.
We envisage that this will involve 1 or 2 5-hour office days and 10 hours worked from home, or directly with our contract farmers.
Remuneration will reflect experience and capability.
