Business Manager - Construction Equipment | OEM
We are seeking an experienced Practical – Strategic Delivery expert to lead national sales performance and drive sustainable growth across our construction equipment portfolio.
This is a senior leadership role for a commercially astute sales leader who can think strategically, communicate at a high level, and remain deeply connected to what’s happening on the ground with customers and sales teams.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team, you will shape and execute the strategy that grows revenue, margin and market share across the CE product range. You’ll lead and develop a national sales team while acting as the primary commercial interface between this market leading group and their OEM partners.
You will bring a modern, insight-led approach to sales and marketing — using data, customer insight and market intelligence to drive practical execution and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute the CE Business Plan, positioning the group as a leader in best-practice capital equipment distribution
- Lead, coach, recruit and performance-manage a national sales team, balancing strategic direction with hands-on engagement
- Drive revenue growth, margin performance and GP uplift, always looking for ways to improve outcomes — 10% better, every cycle
- Collaborate with senior leaders to deliver modern sales and marketing strategies aligned to customer behaviour and market trends
- Build strong, authentic relationships with clients, contractors, OEMs and suppliers, from boardroom to site
- Act as the primary stakeholder for OEM partnerships, ensuring alignment on product, pricing, positioning and support
- Provide accurate sales forecasting and pipeline insight to support inventory planning and stock turns
- Champion disciplined CRM usage, pipeline hygiene and activity-based sales management
- Analyse sales and market data to translate insight into practical action and strategic improvement
- Establish and monitor KPIs, identify trends, and implement corrective actions where required
- Deliver clear, high-impact reporting on performance, market dynamics and competitor activity
- Drive continuous improvement across sales processes, customer experience and internal collaboration
About You
You are a commercially driven leader with deep credibility in the New Zealand heavy equipment/construction machinery sector or similar (heavy industry or large-scale building products background could be considered. You can operate comfortably at senior leadership level while remaining relatable and effective at a boots-on-the-ground level with customers and sales teams.
You will bring:- Proven success in sales leadership or business management roles
- Strong industry background in construction or heavy equipment (technical experience preferred)
- High-level communication skills with the ability to think differently and challenge the status quo
- A data-led mindset, able to turn analysis into real-world commercial outcomes
- Strong negotiation, stakeholder management and influencing capability
- Experience working closely with OEMs, distributors and strategic partners
- Confidence with CRM systems, forecasting and analytics tools
- A growth mindset focused on incremental gains, smarter execution and long-term value
- Willingness to travel nationally as required with a home base location being the Waikato.
