We require 1 Chef & 1 Cook for our Indian takeaway restaurant based in Rotorua. We serve all types of Indian food in our restaurant such as North Indian, South Indian plus tandoor dishes.

Position: Chef X 1
Location: Rotorua, Bay of Plenty
Hours Per Week: 30-40 hours per week (Includes weekend work)

Pay rate: $24per hour

As a Chef your duties will be as follows:

  • Preparation and cooking of menu items, gravies and sauces, etc.
  • Should know how to cook authentic Indian recipes and tandoor dishes.
  • Planning the menu that meets the quality standards.
  • Ensure that all the dishes are cooked well and presented beautifully on time.
  • Delegate work to kitchen staff.
  • Supervise and observe to check that all kitchen staff are performing their duties well.
  • Examine the equipment quality, ensure its maintenance and request to order new equipment if required.
  • Monitor food stocks and accordingly place an order.
  • Train new kitchen staff as often as required.
  • Ensure health and safety regulations within the kitchen area.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of work experience in the Indian cuisine or Level 5 Commercial Cookery Qualification.
  • Thorough knowledge and practical skills of cooking techniques.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and under pressure.
  • Understanding of hygiene and health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of food preparation, cooking and food presentation skills.
  • A positive attitude.

Your Tasks Include:-
  • Take care of the daily food preparation and duties to meet the standard and quality.
  • Train the junior kitchen staff.
  • Estimate daily production needs and check the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure standards are met.
  • Ensure production, preparation and presentation of food are of the highest quality at all times.
  • Knowledge of all standards procedures and policies pertaining to food preparation, receiving, storage and sanitation.
  • Full awareness of all menu items, recipes, methods of production, and presentation standards.
  • Responsible for hygiene, safety and correct use of equipment and utensils.
  • To produce own work in accordance with deadlines.
  • Periodically check the expiry date and proper storage of food items in the section.
  • Abide and enforce health codes and cleanliness standards in the kitchen and food storage areas.
  • Ensure plating accuracy, garnishing, portion size and correct serving dish.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations.
Requirements:-
  • Minimum 2 years of experience, Ideally in the Indian Cuisine or NZQA level-4 qualification in Commercial Cookery.
  • Must have the availability to work on weekends.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen.
  • Good communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented.
