Sous Chef Job Description – The Publican
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and motivated Sous Chef to join our small kitchen team. The ideal candidate is organised, hands-on, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high food quality and cleanliness standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssist the Head Chef with daily kitchen operations
Prepare and cook menu items to a high standard
Support with food prep, stock rotation, and ordering
Maintain food safety and hygiene standards at all times
Help manage kitchen workflow during busy service periods
Train and support junior kitchen staff when required
Ensure the kitchen remains clean, organised, and efficient
Step into the Head Chef role when needed
Skills & Experience
Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong Chef de Partie
Ability to work calmly under pressure
Good communication and teamwork skills
Strong knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene
Reliable, punctual, and hardworking
Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
