About the Role

As a Brachytherapy Fellow, you will gain advanced clinical experience in a department that delivers services across the entire South Island of New Zealand. The brachytherapy service is well supported by a skilled, experienced, and collaborative multidisciplinary team.

You will be trained in prostate and gynaecological brachytherapy techniques in both the public and private sectors, including low dose rate (LDR) seed brachytherapy - the busiest such programme in New Zealand.

You will be actively involved in registrar teaching, clinical research, while receiving strong mentorship and training from a respected team of experts. With our proven academic focus and international links, you'll also have the opportunity to participate in research and present at conferences.

About the Team / Service / Location

The Canterbury Regional Cancer and Haematology Service (CRCHS) provides radiation services to a regional population of approximately 700,000. The radiation oncology department includes 11 radiation oncologists, 13 medical oncologists, 6 haematologists, 4 palliative care physicians, and a skilled multidisciplinary team.

We have four linear accelerators, HDR brachytherapy capability, and a robust stereotactic programme. Our training programme is fully accredited by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), with 11 accredited training positions for registrars.

We also host medical students from the University of Otago's Christchurch School of Medicine.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Hold FRANZCR or an equivalent qualification, or be close to completing fellowship training by February 2026
  • Be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand(see more)
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Have interest and/or experience in brachytherapy procedures
  • Be enthusiastic about clinical research and medical education
