Counsellor – 35hrs per week OR negotiable
Who are We:SOS Kaipara Charitable Trust is based in Dargaville and works throughout the Kaipara District, we provide specialist support, counselling, refuge accommodation and prevention education services to women and children who have experienced family and / or sexual harm.
We are a long-standing and trusted Organisation with great functional relationships within our Community and long-term funding Contracts in place to deliver our holistic and diverse programmes.An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and skilled Counsellor to join our team in providing sexual and family violence services to the Kaipara District community. The role will include providing counselling services and delivery of prevention education programs to the community or only counselling services if this a preference.

The Role:This is an exciting opportunity to work independently within the comfort of a supportive, enthusiastic team. Work will be mainly to deliver one-on-one therapy for wahine and Tamariki. You'll be responsible for the assessment, planning and treatment of a caseload of clients and will provide individual therapy and support.
You will ideally have experience and skills in providing a range of therapeutic modalities with a trauma lens and have a strong interest in developing skills in this area. As part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will engage in regular peer and external supervision and contribute to case management meetings.
- Has expertise in assessing and treating clients who have experienced trauma
- Is experienced in working with culturally diverse clients
- Has a background in working with women and children
- Is familiar with strength-based practice principles
- Demonstrates exemplary professional practice
- Thrives in a busy, multi-disciplinary team setting
- Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Is passionate about supporting individuals on their recovery journey
- Holds current registration with NZAC, DAPAANZ, APANZ or SWRB
- Providing one-on-one Trauma focused counselling,
- Contributing to a team environment that values collaboration and clinical proficiency.
- Working collaboratively with external service providers

To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Professional Registration: With one of the following: NZPB, PBANZ, NZAC, or equivalent.
- Therapeutic Skillset: A warm, engaging approach with clients and an interest in strength based and integrative therapy.
- Experience: Ideally 12 months or more post-graduate experience in mental health
- Commitment to Growth: A desire to deepen your clinical skills through ongoing learning and supervision.
