I am 21 years old and have a condition called Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy. I am a full-time wheelchair user, whether in a powerchair or manual chair. This role isn’t primarily about setting goals; it’s about helping me live my good life.Some days will be hands-on, while others will be less so – no two days will be the same. A bit like being my arms and helping with the things I struggle to do ??. The role will involve a mix of support at home and in the community. Due to the nature of the role, a female support worker is preferred.
Training: On-the-job training will be provided, so no previous experience is required.Pay: Starting at $23.50 per hour (negotiable based on experience and qualifications)
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:- Assisting with meal preparation.
- Community outings and social integration.
- Assistance with transportation (Full NZ driver’s license required)
- Personal cares (showering, toileting, dressing, etc.)
- Assisting with transfers.
- Home management and household tasks.
- A calm, caring, and respectful approach.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well one-on-one with me.
- The right to work in New Zealand.
- A positive attitude – a genuine desire to help and support others.
- Flexibility and adaptability, as support needs and daily routines may vary.
- A commitment to excellence, displaying enthusiasm, reliability, and professionalism.
- Comfort around animals is a plus!
Shifts available: (Hours are not flexible / adjustable)
- Monday – 7:30 am to 9:30 am
- Tuesday – 7:30 am to 9:30 am
- Wednesday – 7:30 am to 1:30 pm
- Thursday – 7:30 am to 9:30 am
- Friday – 7:30 am to 9:30 am
- The 7:30 am to 9:30 am shifts will involve helping me get ready for the day, assisting with household management, meal prep, and supporting my morning routine.
- The 7:30 am to 1:30 pm shifts will include helping me prepare for the day, assisting with household tasks, supporting me with appointments and shopping, and addressing any other daily needs that may arise.
