Senior Heavy Diesel Mechanic

About the Role
In this senior position, you'll take ownership of diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance across a broad range of heavy diesel equipment. You'll be working with some of the most reputable machinery in the industry, including:
- Volvo & CAT Loaders
- Volvo, CAT & Hyundai Excavators
- Liebherr Log & Material Stackers
- Mafi / ITV Wharf Trucks & Trailers
You'll get exposure to both workshop and some field service work, ensuring machinery remains safe, reliable, and operational with minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose, service, and repair heavy diesel engines and hydraulic systems
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults
- Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections
- Provide day-to-day guidance to our apprentice mechanic
- Maintain accurate service records
- Work collaboratively with operations teams to prioritise urgent tasks
About You
You'll bring solid mechanical expertise, strong problem-solving ability, and a commitment to high-quality work. Ideally, you will have:
- A recognised trade qualification in Heavy Automotive Engineering (PolyTech or MITO)
- Proven experience working on heavy diesel equipment (ports, forestry, or earthmoving advantageous)
- Strong diagnostic, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Confidence in leading or mentoring others
- A strong safety mindset and pride in workmanship
- A full NZ driver's licence (WTR endorsements beneficial)
