About the Position | Te Mahi

We are looking for a caring, reliable, and motivated Support Worker to assist a male Service User with his daily routines and help him work towards his personal goals. If you are someone who communicates well, follows directions easily, and genuinely enjoys supporting others in areas like fitness, nutrition, and overall well-being, we would love to hear from you!

Being a Support Worker is very rewarding, fun, challenging, and requires you to have empathy, compassion, and understanding. This is more than a job; it is an opportunity to provide invaluable support, led by the people you will be supporting.

Responsibilities may Include:
  • Provide daily support and companionship in a friendly and respectful manner
  • Encourage and assist with fitness training and working toward nutrition goals
  • Prepare healthy meals and support the Service User with cooking tasks
  • Help maintain a consistent and structured daily routine
  • Assist with personal care needs in a respectful and professional matter
  • Being supportive and understanding of parenting responsibilities, with a willingness to offer guidance as needed
  • Bowel, Bladder, and Catheter cares
  • Moving and handling hoists and manual transfers
  • Medication support
Job Location: Christchurch
Employment Type: Part Time (Up to 29 Hours)

We offer a range of employment opportunities including casual, part-time, and full-time positions, which will be discussed further during the recruitment process.

Days of work: As this is community-based work, rotating rosters would be involved including am, pm and weekend work. Your preferred hours of work can be discussed during the recruitment process.

The duration of these hours may vary, ranging from shorter to longer periods, depending on the specific needs of the people we support.

About you | He momo

You are a calm but confident-natured individual who can demonstrate resilience and an understanding of the challenges faced by those whom we support. You can be reliable, dependable, and will always turn up for your scheduled visits.

The candidate would have (Candidate Pre-Requisites):
  • Ideally experience in support work is preferred, but not essential
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English
  • Able to follow directions while remaining adaptable to individual needs and routines
  • Comfortable and confident when providing personal care, always with respect and professionalism
  • Proactive, encouraging, and supportive in their approach
  • Skilled in cooking, with a good understanding of healthy eating habits
  • A Level 3 or Level 4 Health and Wellbeing qualification is beneficial and those looking to enter the healthcare sector will also be considered (comprehensive training can be provided)
  • Access to a car and ability to drive independently (a full New Zealand Driver's License is a must)
  • Flexibility to work on a rotating roster
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand is a must.

  • Pay Band: $24.13 - $30.03 per hour (This is based on the Pay Equity Settlement 2017 – hourly pay rates based on equivalency of Healthcare Qualifications assessed under Pay Equity).
