Finance Officer
One of our highest profile ministries is looking for a Finance Officer on an 18-month Fixed Term Contract as they expand a major programme of works across Aotearoa.
This role is well suited to someone with solid transactional finance experience who enjoys working in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment and wants exposure to programme and project accounting within a large‑scale capital programme.
The role
Reporting to the Programme Manager and working closely with the Programme Accountant, you will play a key role in the financial administration and support of a complex, multi‑year programme with a large portfolio of active projects.You will be responsible for processing a high volume of invoices, supporting budget allocations, and ensuring programme funding is accurately recorded and applied across projects. The role works closely with Project Coordinators, a Wellington‑based programme team, and an invoice processing hub based in Christchurch to ensure timely and accurate payments and reporting.
This is a full‑time position (37.5 hours per week) offered on an 18‑month fixed‑term contract, with a preferred start date as soon as possible.
Key responsibilities:
- Process a high volume of programme‑related invoices within agreed timeframes
- Work closely with the central finance team to ensure invoices are paid within service targets
- Prepare regular budget memos to allocate project funding across the programme
- Support management of financial activity across a large portfolio of projects
- Assist with capitalisation and project accounting processes
- Work closely with the Programme Accountant to verify funding and allocations
- Liaise with Project Coordinators and internal finance stakeholders to support delivery
About you
You’re comfortable operating in a transactional finance role with exposure to budgets and project activity, and you bring a proactive, reliable approach to your work. You’re organised, enjoy working to deadlines, and can manage competing priorities without losing attention to detail.
You will likely have:
- 3–5 years’ experience in an accounting support, finance officer, or AP/AR‑focused role
- Experience working in high‑volume, fast‑paced transactional environments
- Understanding of capital expenditure, budgets, and funding years
- Exposure to project or programme accounting methodologies
- Strong communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills
- The ability to work independently and show initiative
- Tertiary study in Accounting (completed or in progress) is advantageous
- Exposure to structured finance is beneficial but not essential
