Aviator’s Place is a fully catered student hostel operated by the New Zealand Airline Academy — New Zealand’s largest and award-winning pilot training school. Home to over 100 international students, primarily from India, Aviator’s Place offers a welcoming, community-focused environment that supports aspiring pilots throughout their training journey.

As part of our expansion into Whanganui, we are seeking a Resident Hostel Manager / Relief Cook (Indian Cuisine) to join our growing team in either Oamaru or Whanganui as the organisations demands require.

About the Role:

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and smooth operation of our student hostel, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained living environment for our residents. You’ll also provide relief cooking support from time to time, particularly in preparing authentic Indian cuisine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily hostel operations, including maintenance, housekeeping, and student welfare.
  • Manage check-ins/outs, room allocations, and hostel records.
  • Support catering operations as a relief cook, preparing quality meals when required.
  • Move & live between our Oamaru and Whanganui bases as needed.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Ideally 2 years’ experience in hostel management (100+ rooms preferred).
  • Experience in Indian cooking or catering within a similar environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a genuine care for student wellbeing.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to handle day-to-day operational challenges.
  • Flexible and willing to relocate or work between Oamaru and Whanganui.
Additional Information:
  • This is a live-in position; on-site accommodation will be provided.
  • Accommodation is not suitable for couples due to the nature of the role.

If you are a motivated individual with a passion for hospitality, student support, and cultural diversity, we would love to hear from you.
