Grazing Manager
This is an opportunity to develop a leadership role within a large-scale, progressive sheep, beef and dairy operation spanning 6,000 hectares across multiple blocks.
The business benefits from an outstanding mix of steep hill country, well-developed downs and pivot-irrigated land, creating a diverse farming system. In total, the operation runs approximately 35,000 stock units of sheep and beef breeding, replacement and finishing stock, and provides grazing and support services to its three dairy farms.
The Role
The Grazing Manager will be responsible for 600 hectares of irrigated land and will play a pivotal role in leading and shaping a scale dairy-beef programme, working closely with grazing partners and the wider business.This is a role with real influence and scope to grow. As the programme develops, there is opportunity to take on increased responsibility, contribute more broadly to system design and performance, and progress within the business.
Key responsibilities include:- Managing stock flows across the system
- Co-ordinating grazing plans and sale schedules
- Executing the Annual Operating Plan
- Delivering agreed performance and production KPIs
Previous experience in an industry support, grazing management, or large-scale livestock operation will be considered.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will:- Have a proven track record of growing livestock and strong technical capability to support day-to-day decision-making
- Demonstrate excellent pasture and feed management skills, with the discipline to execute a feed plan at scale
- Be a confident and effective communicator who can set expectations, share a clear vision, motivate people and drive accountability
- Take pride in farm presentation and asset management
- Be a strong team player who can collaborate across the business, build positive relationships with customers and the wider community, and share knowledge
- Bring established industry networks to support the ongoing development of the beef programme
This role may suit someone currently residing in the Central Canterbury or Selwyn District, with a vehicle provided.
