Nestled in South Dunedin, The Dessert Room crafts an array of handcrafted cakes and exquisite sweet treats—from novelty and wedding cakes to cheesecakes—using premium ingredients and meticulous techniques. Due to growing demand, we are seeking a skilled and passionateBakerto join our dynamic team.

Hours of work: Min 30 hours per week

• Prepare, proof and bake a variety of cakes, cheesecakes, gateaux, pastry elements, and other delicacies
• Measuring and mixing ingredients accurately using both manual and automated systems
• Operate bakery equipment: ovens, mixers, moulds, and pastry tools
• Ensure consistent product quality, portion size, finish and decoration
• Maintain rigorous food safety standards and hygiene compliance under NZ food legislation
• Manage stock levels and order ingredients in liaison with the owner/manager
• Support innovation by contributing to product development (e.g., seasonal cakes, gluten-free or vegan options)
• Monitoring baking processes and adjusting time and temperature as required
• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in line with food safety regulations
• Other relevant tasks that may be asked by time to time

• A relevant qualification in baking or culinary arts etc (not required if work experience requirement is met)
• At least 3 years of proven work experience as a baker or pastry chef (not required if qualification required is met)
• Sound knowledge of traditional and contemporary baking techniques
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays as required
• Physically fit and able to handle the demands of a fast-paced kitchen environment
• Commitment to health and safety and food hygiene practices
• Must have clean criminal history
• Must pass pre-employment checks if required.
