About the Role
Te Puriri o Te Ora Cancer Blood Services at Auckland City Hospital is a large, internationally recognised cancer centre delivering Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology and Haematology care. The Radiation Oncology Service is increasing research opportunities across the patient care pathway.The department is involved in clinical trials including from the Trans-Tasman Radiation Oncology Group (TROG) and the Medical Research Council (MRC) in the UK.
In mid-2026 the regional service will expand to become multi campus commencing with a radiation oncology department in Whangarei. Until that time the service will continue with the visiting Radiation Oncologist clinic provision.
A full radiation treatment programme is provided including Paediatric Radiation Oncology, Brachytherapy and Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy. In collaboration with the University of Auckland, Auckland City Hospital is recognised for its academic programme and is the largest teaching hospital in New Zealand.There is an active Registrar training Programme with eleven Radiation Oncology Registrars.
The successful applicant will join a team of 23 Radiation Oncologists and will be responsible for one or more sub-specialty areas of interest. The department is looking for Radiation Oncologists with experience and passion in any of the following tumour streams: Breast, Lung, GU, GI, and Haematology, including Palliative RT.Experience in these alongside VMAT, IGRT are essential. Experience with SABR is desirable.
Many of our protocols involve combined radiation and chemotherapy, and we work closely with the medical oncologists and haematologists, who are also based in the service. The successful applicant should demonstrate a strong ability to work in a team environment and providing high quality multi-disciplinary care.A strong academic record, broad experience in Radiation Oncology and interest in research are required. The successful applicant should contribute to improvement initiatives as part of multi-disciplinary team.

Te Puriri o Te Ora is the biggest cancer and blood service within Aotearoa, providing care to approximately 40% of the country. We provide a wide range of services including Medical and Radiation Oncology, Haematology, Awhinatia Te Tangata (specialist Maori Health team), Cancer Support Team (specialist psychological and social support), Research, Genetics Services, and the NZ Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Service.
