About the RoleAs a Public Health Nurse, you will provide a variety of health services to preschool, schoolchildren and young people, working with their families and school communities and collaboratively with agencies and health service providers.

You will work from the base in Whakatāne, but the service is largely delivered in schools and people's homes.
Public Health Nurses contribute to immunisation events in the community and may work in any of our specific programmes, such as B4 School checks, School Based Immunisation Programme or one-to-one work with the child and whanau.

A key skill for Public Health Nurses is the ability to establish and maintain successful relationships with schools, whanau and community agencies.A large part of our work involves child protection, and we work closely with Oranga Tamariki and the Police.

Public Health Nurses must be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team.

You are able to utilise advanced nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to the top of your scope.Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse.Holds a current Annual Practising Certificate.A relevant graduate and post-graduate qualification.Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action.Experience working with children and familiesExperience working in the communityOr New Graduate with understanding of community, children and familiesA current driver's licenceComputer competentWorking at Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
