About the Opportunity
A well-established and trusted auto electrical and mechanical workshop in Ashburton is seeking a capable and motivated Operations Manager to join their team. With a busy workshop made up of a team of 12 technicians and admin staff, the business specialises in auto electrical diagnostics, mechanical repairs, fleet servicing, and 4x4 upgrades across a wide range of vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities- Lead and support a team of technicians and admin staff in a busy workshop environment
- Oversee daily scheduling, job allocation, and workflow management
- Manage procurement, parts supply, and inventory
- Monitor workshop performance including productive hours, job efficiency, and technician utilisation
- Manage debtors and support the admin team with invoicing and payment follow-ups when required
- Maintain high standards of service quality, customer satisfaction, and workshop efficiency
- Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures and industry regulations
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure smooth project delivery
- Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial customers, ensuring their ongoing needs are met
- Visit potential commercial clients to promote workshop services and identify new business opportunities
- Drive ongoing improvement across systems, processes, and team culture
- 4+ years in a leadership, supervisory, or operations management role
- Solid technical understanding of vehicle systems and workshop processes
- Proficiency with job tracking software and stock control systems
- Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills
- Full Class 1 Driver’s Licence (Forklift licence a bonus)
- Trade qualification in Automotive, Auto Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
- Experience with 4x4, agricultural, or fleet vehicles
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and OEM systems
- Ability to balance workshop operations with supply chain needs
