Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principlesof Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system thatserves all New Zealanders.About theRoleWith 16 Intensive CareSpecialists combining qualifications in Intensive Care, Retrieval Medicine,Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, Medicine, Cardiology, Surgery and TraumaSurgery you will gain world class experience with varied case mixes and a highlevel of medical education, training, and supervision.With College of Intensive CareMedicine part I and part II examiners there can be a focussed education packageto meet the needs of trainees.
There is also the opportunity to fulfilCICM echocardiography training requirements. Paediatric case numbersfulfil the criteria for CICM Paediatric ICU Training.There is an active researchdepartment with Specialists able to guide progression through audit and qualityor research requirements if required.In addition to the experiencesabove we provide an active specialist led education programme with protectedteaching time to enable participation.The efforts of the educationalenthusiasts amongst the SMO receives regular positive feedback from theparticipants. You will also have the opportunity to educate your peers aswell as the Otago University Trainee Intern Medical Students that rotatethrough the unit.Our new Intensive Care facilityopened in 2021, meaning there has never been a better time to consider a careerwith Waitaha Canterbury.
Critical care experience awaits you, encompassing thespectrum of tertiary care for adults and selected paediatric specialties in theSouth Island of New Zealand.Participate and gain a breadthof experience across critical care. We care for patients requiring IntensiveCare all specialties including Cardiothoracic and Neurosurgical.
ChristchurchHospital also provides regional care for trauma, burns, paediatric oncology,paediatric surgery, South Island neurosurgery, interventional radiology. Inaddition, we are one of two Spinal Injury units for New Zealand and likewiseone of two hyperbaric units for New Zealand.
We can also provide ananaesthesia rotation progressing from SHO to Registrar covering 12 months forIntensive Care Trainees requiring completion of their anaesthesia training.In addition to working on ICUthere is the opportunity to participate in a busy road, rotary and fixed winginter hospital retrieval service covering commonly the South Island (includingthe Chatham Islands) but with a reach for subspecialty transfers into the NorthIsland as far north as Auckland.Christchurch- s Intensive Careadopted the care for deteriorating patients early in the evolution of rapidresponse systems and has a dedicated nurse and doctor deteriorating patientresponse team 24 hours a day.About the Team When you work with Health NewZealand
