There is a daily elective caesarean section list.The gynaecology service includes inpatient and outpatient services.
There are 27 inpatient gynaecology beds, a 5-bed gynaecology assessment unit and a separate colposcopy and outpatient hysteroscopy unit.
There are 4 elective lists per day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and 3 elective lists on Wednesday and a senior registrar list on Friday morning.
There is a dedicated gynaecology acute list Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
The early pregnancy unit is nurse led and run out of the gynaecology assessment unit and is supported by a medical management of miscarriage protocol.
We also offer a manual vacuum aspiration (MVAC) service for those women wishing for surgical management who do not require an anaesthetic.
This is run though our gynaecology procedural unit (GPU) where other procedures including termination of pregnancy and other gynaecology minor procedures are performed.
There is a team structure for day-to-day patient care.
The afterhours roster is arranged so all nights and weekends are done in a 2-week block to allow for maximum team-based training time.

- s hospital is a 6000 birth per annum, tertiary Obstetrics and Gynaecology service offering Gynae Oncology and maternal fetal medicine services for the entire South Island.There is a large variety of acute and elective obstetric presentations and high-risk obstetrics.
On the birth suite there are 12 birthing rooms, 2 obstetric theatres on birth suite, 9 assessment/ pre-labour beds, 2 acute observation beds and 4 beds in PACU.
The Birth Suite is covered 24 hours a day with 2 registrars, a SHO, SMO and a dedicated anaesthetic team.There is a daily elective caesarean section list.The gynaecology service includes inpatient and outpatient services.

Long days are done outside of this block.
Weekend days are staffed by 2 SHO- s until 4pm (one continuing until night team handover), 2 registrars and an SMO with a second SMO rostered as second on call and doing a gynaecology ward round on a daily basis.This is a fixed-term position to cover a period of parental leave from September 2025
