Greerton - 2 Team Leader - Kiwifruit Farm Operations

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a keen understanding of farm operations, and a passion for the agricultural industry. This role will support the supervisor and help ensure that all aspects of farm work are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership and Supervision:

o Lead and manage a team of fruit pickers and planters, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

o Motivate and engage the team to meet productivity and quality targets.
o Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and support to team members.
o Monitor and assess individual performance, providing feedback and support as necessary.
o Foster a positive work environment that encourages collaboration, respect, and safety.
  • Operational Support:

o Assist in the planning and execution of planting and harvesting schedules.

o Oversee work quality and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and according to farm guidelines.
o Help coordinate with the supervisor to ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
o Maintain accurate records of team activities, including hours worked, productivity, and any issues encountered.
  • Safety and Compliance:
o Ensure all team members are adhering to safety protocols and maintaining farm equipment properly.
o Promote a culture of health and safety by conducting regular safety briefings and ensuring compliance with local regulations.
o Monitor team members for any signs of fatigue or health concerns to avoid accidents or injury.
  • Problem Solving and Reporting:
o Identify operational inefficiencies or challenges and communicate these issues to the farm supervisor.
o Suggest improvements or changes to optimize productivity and quality.
o Handle minor conflicts or issues within the team and escalate to the supervisor when necessary.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
o Maintain open communication with the farm supervisor to report on team performance, challenges, and progress.

o Assist in the development of team goals, monitoring progress, and adjusting tasks as needed to ensure productivity targets are met.

Skills and Qualifications
  • At least 1 year’s experience working in agriculture.
  • Strong understanding of farm operations, such as fruit picking and planting, mulching, pruning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage a diverse team.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work long hours in varying weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in an agricultural setting.
  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Work 30-35 Hours per Week
