Payroll and Accounts Administrator

About the role
Reporting to the group Commercial Manager, you will ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for 250 employees within eight venues, across Hamilton and Auckland, while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and internal policies.The Payroll / Accounts Administrator will act primarily as a key point of contact for payroll-related queries as well as, payroll related finance functions and processes. In addition, you will assist with till and banking reconciliation as well as providing support to the accounts payable team using Xero to enter invoices and organise bill payments.
What you'll be doing- Processing weekly payrolls for all employees, including managing employee leave, deductions and KiwiSaver contributions
- Maintaining accurate employee records and payroll data in the company's HR and payroll systems
- Responding to employee payroll queries in a timely and professional manner
- Entering payroll journals, banking information, and invoices into Xero
- Month-end wage transfers in Xero
- Identifying and resolving any payroll discrepancies or errors
- Weekly payroll reporting
- Perform other general administrative duties as required including leave cover for other team members from the accounts payable team
- Relevant payroll administration experience, ideally gained in a similar business environment
- Previous experience in Accounts AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and GST returns preferred
- Strong numeracy skills and attention to detail to ensure payroll calculations and records are accurate
- Proficient in using payroll software, ideally PayHero, with the ability to learn new systems quickly
- Xero Accounting Software, including entering payroll journals, wage transfers, intercompany payments, invoice batches, and bill payments
- Advanced Excel skills, including generating reports, formula creation, data entry etc
- Experience in shift work, calculating and processing wages for shift workers, including holiday pay calculations, time and a half etc.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills to handle employee inquiries effectively
- Sound knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- Strong organisational and time management skills to meet strict deadlines
