  • Permanent, full-time role with strong job security
  • Exposure to large-scale Canterbury infrastructure projects

We're looking for an experienced Power Technician to join the team in Christchurch. This is a full-time, permanent role working in the high-voltage substation environment — installing, testing, commissioning and maintaining critical equipment that keeps Canterbury powered.

What's in it for you?
  • $45-$55 p/h (depending on experience)
  • Permanent, full-time role with strong job security
  • Southern Cross Health Insurance

About the role

As a Power Technician, you'll be hands-on with both primary and secondary equipment — from transformers, circuit breakers and disconnectors to SCADA, relays and RTUs. You'll carry out installation, commissioning, diagnostic testing and fault analysis using specialist tools such as Omicron CPC/CMC units, insulation testers and CB time travel devices.

You'll work across a range of substation projects in Canterbury, combining practical site work with advanced testing and diagnostics. No two days are the same, and your expertise will help ensure safe and reliable outcomes for essential infrastructure.

Key responsibilities
  • Install, test and commission HV substation equipment and protection systems
  • Perform diagnostic testing and fault analysis on transformers, breakers and circuits
  • Operate specialist test equipment to ensure compliance with industry standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records and equipment histories
  • Participate in site risk assessments and uphold strong safety practices
  • Support both project delivery and scheduled maintenance, with standby roster participation when required
About you
  • Certified Electrician with NZ registration (or eligible) and current practising licence
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in HV substation control, protection and testing
  • Skilled at interpreting electrical diagrams and using specialist test equipment
  • Safety-focused, with good communication and teamwork skills
  • Full NZ driver's licence and physically fit for site-based work

If you're ready to take the next step in your HV career, apply now to join a team delivering essential infrastructure projects across Canterbury.
