Auckland Hort Services Ltd (AHSL) is an established and growing horticultural contracting business servicing approximately 350 canopy hectares across Auckland and Waikato. We specialise in canopy spraying, fertiliser and compost spreading, and orchard support services for corporate and private growers.
We are entering a new phase of growth and are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our field operations, implement systems, and drive performance across the business.
This is a senior operational leadership role reporting directly to the Director.
The Role
The Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing all operational staff and ensuring the business runs efficiently, profitably and safely.
The spray programme itself will be coordinated by a Spray Programme Manager. Your role is to oversee execution, performance, cost control and team leadership.
You will:
- Oversee and lead a team of 6–8 field staff
- Ensure operational activities are delivered efficiently and on schedule
- Implement and manage KPIs across labour, machinery, chemical use and productivity
- Establish clear performance expectations for all staff
- Conduct formal quarterly performance reviews
- Provide constructive feedback and manage underperformance where required
- Monitor labour hours, cost per hectare, equipment downtime and margin performance
- Oversee maintenance schedules and asset care
- Improve operational systems, reporting and workflow planning
- Work alongside the Director to grow and professionalise the business
This role is a mix of field presence and office-based planning and reporting.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking an experienced operator and leader from a horticulture, agriculture or contracting background. Kiwifruit experience is beneficial but not essential.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Proven experience managing operational teams in a field-based environment
- Strong planning and logistics capability
- Experience working within or implementing KPI frameworks
- Confidence conducting structured performance reviews
- Strong computer skills (scheduling, reporting, cost tracking)
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding of machinery maintenance
- Commercial awareness and understanding of operational cost drivers
- Calm, steady leadership under pressure
