Do you enjoy the buzz of events and providing excellent customer service? G&T Catering is seeking Casual Events & Catering Front of House staff to help make our functions run smoothly.
In this role, you’ll be the friendly face of our catering service during weddings, celebrations, and corporate events at Larcomb Vineyard and various off-site venues around Canterbury. This is a fun, hands-on job perfect for someone with a positive attitude and a passion for hospitality. There will be plenty of opportunity to pick up extra shifts during the busy summer season when events are in full swing. If you’re a team player who is reliable and loves making guests smile, we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities include:- Providing wait service at events – serving plated meals, circulating canapés, clearing plates, and making sure guests have everything they need to enjoy the event.
- Assisting with basic bar service – pouring wine and beer, mixing simple drinks, and possibly making coffee if you have barista skills (bonus points if you do!).
- Helping with event setup and pack-down – arranging tables, chairs, decorations, setting up buffet or bar areas, and then packing down and cleaning up after the event.
- Working under the direction of an event supervisor/manager to ensure everything runs according to plan.
- Representing G&T Catering with a positive, professional demeanor at all times – you’ll be interacting with guests, so a friendly smile and can-do attitude are a must!
- Has some hospitality or events experience as a waiter/waitress, bar staff, or similar (preferred but not strictly required for the right person with a great attitude).
- Is comfortable with bar service or willing to learn. If you have experience making coffee or cocktails, that’s a plus, but if not we can show you the basics for serving wine, beer, and soft drinks.
- Brings a great team attitude and excellent communication skills. You enjoy working with others and can take direction as well as show initiative when needed.
- Is reliable and punctual – you understand that our events run on a schedule and the team (and our guests) are counting on you to be there on time and ready to go.
- Has the required event attire: your own black trousers and black closed-toe shoes (we’ll provide you with a smart G&T Catering uniform top).
- A friendly, inclusive team where everyone helps each other – we work hard but have fun doing it!
- Variety of events and venues: one week you might be serving at an intimate vineyard wedding, the next at a large corporate function in the city. It’s hard to get bored here!
- Flexible casual shifts that can fit around your study or other work – primarily weekend and evening work. (And if you want extra hours, we have lots of events in summer.)
- On-the-job training and the opportunity to build your hospitality skills (learn about event service, bar work, etc.).
- A competitive hourly wage, based on your experience. You’ll be paid weekly for the hours you work.
