Casual Events & Catering Chef (Part-Time/Casual)
Are you a creative chef who loves catering events? We’re looking for a Casual Events & Catering Chef to join our kitchen team at G&T Catering. Based at our Larcomb Vineyard kitchen in Rolleston, you’ll focus on food prep, baking, and production during the lead-up to events, and then help execute the menu at functions both on-site at Larcomb Vineyard and off-site at client venues.
This role offers a lot of variety – one day you might be prepping canapés in our kitchen, and another day plating dinners at a wedding or finishing dishes on location for an off-site corporate event. Most shifts are on weekends and evenings, however those available weekdays will have an advantage.There are more opportunities for hours during the summer peak season. If you have a positive attitude, can work independently when needed (including some sole-charge shifts), and thrive in a team that delivers top-notch food experiences, we’d love to hear from you!
Responsibilities include:- Food preparation and production (including baking pastries, breads, etc.) at our Rolleston base kitchen (Larcomb Vineyard).
- Plating and serving dishes during events at Larcomb Vineyard.
- Transporting prepared food to off-site event locations and finishing meal service on-site (ensuring everything is heated, presented, and served to high standards).
- Maintaining excellent food quality, hygiene, and presentation at all times.
- Occasionally running the kitchen solo (sole-charge) for smaller events or off-site functions when required.
- Have at least 2 years of chef experience, ideally with exposure to event or catering environments.
- Possesses strong baking and general food production skills.
- Holds a full NZ driver’s licence (required to drive our catering van to events).
- Can work confidently both independently and as part of a team. (You might be in charge during an event, or collaborating with our head chef for larger functions.)
- Brings a positive, can-do attitude, reliability, and a passion for creating great food. Evening and weekend availability is a must (that’s when events happen!), and willingness to pick up extra shifts over summer is a plus.

- Flexible casual hours: primarily weekends/evenings, which can fit around other commitments. (Expect more shifts during summer, our busiest season.)
- Competitive hourly pay of $25–$32 per hour, based on your experience and references.
