Mō te tūnga | About the roleAs a Physical Trainer Instructor (PTI) you will conduct physical training within our Youth Development Unit (YDU), to help improve, maintain and restore physical fitness with youth aged between 13
  • 25.The YDU, which is an initiative created as part of the Government ‘Fresh Start' youth policy, provides youth training programmes to young New Zealanders under an arrangement with several other Government agencies including the Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Education and the New Zealand Police.
The YDU provides young people (13
  • 25 years) with a range of comprehensive programmes designed to enable course participants to progress into job placement, trade training, further education and re-engagement in local communities.

The main responsibilities of this role are to:Instruct classes in a range of physical training activities, mainly strength and conditioning, sports related and some water based activities.Organise and deliver sport and recreation activities such as sports tournaments and triathlon events.Deliver individualised personal training programmes as and when required.You may also need to provide nutritional advice as and when required.Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and ExperienceOur team of PTIs are highly motivated and passionate about the work they do supporting others to achieve optimal physical results in an environment that encourages peak levels of skill and fitness.

Their enthusiasm and professionalism for all things sporting and physical shows through in everything they do, making them the best.To be successful in this role you will need:Proven experience in delivering physical training to classes, groups and individuals, preferably dealing with youth.A Diploma in Sport and Exercise, or equivalent.Highly effective communication skills and the ability to relate well to wide range of people.A pro-active, positive and inclusive attitude.To take pride in offering the best possible service and display leadership in their area of expertise.Working with, developing and supporting youth would be advantageous.
