2026 Training Year: Medical Education Fellow NZREX Primary Care PathwayLocation: Auckland Metro Districts0.6 FTEHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Northern Region is progressing the implementation of the NZREX Primary Care Pathway (NZREX PCP), an innovative programme designed to support international medical graduates (IMGs) to transition into Aotearoa New Zealands primary care health workforce through structured, supported experience in primary care and hospital settings.We are seeking two enthusiastic and motivated Medical Education Fellows to contribute to medical education and workforce development across the Auckland Metro Districts while developing their own leadership, teaching, and quality improvement skills.About the roleBased within the Clinical Education and Training Unit (CETU), you will work closely with the Programme Clinical Leads, the Programme Implementation Lead, and Regional Directors of Clinical Training to deliver high-quality education, orientation, and wellbeing support for NZREX Primary Care Pathway participants.Key responsibilities include:Supporting the design and delivery of the NZREX PCP curriculum, aligned with prevocational training and regional workforce prioritiesFacilitating protected teaching sessions, case-based discussions, and simulation or skills workshopsCoordinating teaching contributions from clinical educators across hospital and community settingsPromoting bicultural and multicultural learning and the application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in practiceProviding mentorship, wellbeing, and professional support for programme participantsSupporting programme evaluation, educational innovation, and continuous quality improvement initiativesThis is primarily an educational and administrative role (0.6 FTE) with no rostered nights or weekends.

There may be opportunities to combine the role with additional clinical work, subject to service availability and agreement.This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in medical education, leadership, curriculum development, quality improvement, and workforce innovation while contributing to a nationally significant programme supporting international medical graduates into the New Zealand health system.About youWe are looking for candidates who:Hold current registration and an Annual Practising Certificate with the Medical Council of New ZealandAre a PGY2 doctor who will have achieved endorsement removal prior to commencement, or a registrar traineeHave an interest in medical education, primary care, and supporting international medical graduatesDemonstrate a strong understanding of equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the role of culture in achieving equitable health outcomesAre confident communicators and effective collaborator across multidisciplinary teamsHave a proactive and supportive approach to mentoring and learner wellbeingPrevious experience in teaching, simulation, or curriculum development is advantageous but not essential.This role would suit a House Officer or Registrar interested in pursuing future opportunities in medical education, leadership, workforce development, or quality improvement.Why join us?Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is building a future-focused, equitable health system grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Pae Ora | Healthy Futures vision.
