- Maternity, Child and Youth Policy provides senior leadership across maternity and child and youth health portfolios, with responsibility for shaping funding settings, service models and system architecture.
We have two positions available.
In this role you will lead high profile maternity policy initiatives that influence how services are funded and delivered across the care continuum.In parallel, you will drive integrated child and youth health policy, with a strong emphasis on the first 2,000 days and alignment across health and wider social systems.Operating at both strategic and technical levels, you will work across the health sector and with central and social agencies to deliver coherent, implementable policy that strengthens system performance and delivers improved outcomes for women, children and families.

- What you'll do Lead maternity policy with a strong funding and system design lensDrive child and youth health policy, with a particular focus on the first 2,000 days, ensuring alignment between maternal health, early childhood, youth services and wider social system settingsProvide authoritative advice to Ministers and senior leaders, producing high'quality Cabinet papers, briefings and advice that clearly articulate strategic choices, trade'offs and funding implications.Lead and influence across government, building strong working relationships with agencies beyond health and aligning policy, funding and delivery settings to shared outcomes.Build policy capability through coaching, providing deep analytical support, and working collaboratively with colleaguesEstablishing and leveraging trusted relationships across the Ministry and sectorEnsuring equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations are reflected in every piece of work.
- What you'll bring Extensive experience leading complex policy development and providing high quality advice to Ministers.Demonstrated experience shaping funding and system settingsStrong cross'government experience, with the credibility and skill to lead work programmes involving multiple agencies and differing policy, funding and operating modelsHighly developed analytical capability, including working with quantitative analysis and modelling to inform funding, investment and system decisionsStrong programme and project planning capability, delivering work on time and within budget.Political astuteness and sound judgement, with experience advising Ministers and senior leaders on complex, cross'cutting issues.A tertiary qualification in health, public policy, or a related field, or equivalent senior policy experience.
