About Us

Community Connections | Te Hapori Awhina Tangata is a community-based disability support provider operating across much of the North Island.

Our vision is an inclusive Aotearoa where disabled people are valued and supported to live the lives they choose. We are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the NZ Disability Strategy, and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds, especially Maori, Pasifika, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people with lived experience of disability or mental health.

About the Role

In this part-time role, you will be part of a dedicated residential team providing support for a lovely woman who lives in her own home in the Lower Hutt area. She enjoys spending time with her family, going for walks, aqua jogging, arts and crafts, music, animals, and socialising.

This role involves building a trusting and supportive relationship, encouraging her independence, and helping her engage in activities that bring her happiness and connection.

Shifts include a regular Monday shift from 9:15 am to 12 pm, with the potential for additional weekend or sleepover work.

Please note: This role is for female staff only, as requested by the person supported.

About You

You are patient, reliable, and motivated to create positive change. You understand the importance of clear boundaries, structure, and empathy when supporting people with complex needs. You are comfortable with household tasks, can model healthy routines, and bring the resilience needed to respond to challenging situations calmly and professionally.

Previous experience in disability or mental health support is highly desirable, particularly if you have supported individuals who benefit from behaviour support strategies. Your ability to follow detailed plans, work collaboratively in a team, and build trust will be essential.

We’re Looking For
  • Experience in disability or mental health support
  • Understanding of behaviour support strategies
  • Confidence in setting clear, professional boundaries
  • Resilience and the ability to stay calm in challenging situations
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Commitment to inclusive, person-directed support

Why Join Us

At Community Connections, you’ll join a supportive team passionate about making a difference. We offer training, professional development (including Level 3–4 Health and Wellbeing), an Employee Assistance Program, weekend rates, and clear opportunities for growth.

Please note: A full NZ driver’s licence, legal right to work in NZ, and clear police and Oranga Tamariki checks are required.
