RK Timbers is a long-established family-owned business, specialising in imported timber.
We are looking for a Timber Machinist for our Papakura site.
Monday to Friday with plenty of extra hours available.

What You Do:

As a Timber Machinist your role is to ensure that products are safely produced to the highest standard possible. You take accountability to make sure product and quality specifications are consistently met and the output of remanufactured product is maximised for cost effectiveness and minimised wastage.

The key responsibilities of your role are subject to applicant experience and change from time to time due to the dynamic nature of the role and RK Timbers, and can include:

  • Planning, scheduling, and processing of jobs to meet specified targets
  • Produce templates and knives
  • Set up machinery, including heads for production runs
  • Effectively run planers, bandsaws and other machinery
  • Feeding and tailing out of all machines
  • Continuous quality checks whilst processing to ensure product is manufactured as per drawings and specifications
  • Any other duties required to keep the machine shop running effectively (which could include but is not limited to, fork hoist driving, strapping and wrapping of packets, grading, filleting and tallying of timber)
  • Carry out general labour activities around the factory or other work premises, where and when required
  • Undertake internal procedural company training relating to the job
  • Participate in external company training regarding job specific tasks, compliance, safety and quality programmes

Experience:

  • Preferably hold a NZQA Level 4 Timber Machinist qualification or better (or international equivalent).
  • Knowledge of the timber processing process.
  • Knowledge of timber characteristics, sizes and quality.
  • Practical skills to operate machinery to process timber safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures in the wood processing plant.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to operate computer-controlled machines.
