Mō te tūnga | About the roleA vocational trainer is an educator who specializes in teaching practical skills and knowledge for specific trades or occupations.
They prepare individuals for employment in a chosen field by providing hands-on training and theoretical instruction.Our Industries Team are all about supporting the men in Prison to improve their work habits, work experiences and skills so that they can increase their chances of obtaining sustainable and legitimate work on their release.
By providing this foundation to success, we reduce reoffending and keep our communities safer.A commercial approach to employment training is embraced to ensure effectiveness, covering basic work attendance skills, on-the-job training, and, when feasible, nationally recognized certification of attained skill levels.In providing a platform of good working habits to take forward to the future, you will further support rehabilitation and reintegration practices.
The role also provides support to the wider Offender Employment operation as part of the wider Internal Services Team.A comprehensive Frontline Introduction into Corrections and extensive initial training is provided for the successful applicant.
This will involve onsite training as well as residential training at our college just outside of Wellington to focus on the custodial elements of our position.

Knowledge of Whakairo practices and skills would be advantageousAt least 5 years experience delivering vocational training or short coursesUnit Standard 4098Experience delivering training on behalf of Industry Training Organizations (ITO's) or Private Training Establishments (PTE's)
- such as First Aid, Working at Heights, Scaffolding, Growsafe, and other short vocational coursesThe legal right to work in New Zealand without restriction*A full New Zealand Driver Licence* Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.

Ngā painga | The benefitsThe salary range for this role is $72,514- $90,322. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
