Job Purpose:
To plan, prepare, and cook nutritious and well-balanced meals and snacks for children in accordance with dietary requirements, food safety standards, and the centre’s philosophy on healthy eating.
As a Chef, you will be responsible for the following: ________________________________________Key Responsibilities:
- Plan weekly menus that meet the nutritional needs of preschool children, accommodating allergies and special dietary requirements.
- Prepare and cook morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea daily.
- Maintain a clean, hygienic, and safe kitchen environment, following food safety and hygiene regulations (including appropriate food storage and temperature checks).
- Order and manage food supplies and stock rotation to minimise waste and ensure freshness.
- Maintain accurate records of meals served, temperature logs, cleaning schedules, and supplier deliveries.
- Collaborate with centre staff to support children’s learning about healthy eating.
- Follow all relevant health and safety policies and procedures, including allergy and anaphylaxis protocols.
- Participate in audits and inspections by regulatory bodies (e.g., ERO, local council) as needed.
- May be expected to assist with various operational duties at the ECE centre, which could include driving

Key Requirements:- 3 Years of work experience
- Knowledge of nutrition and dietary needs for young children.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and work independently.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Police vetting and safety checking as required under the Children’s Act 2014.
- A warm, friendly, and professional manner with a genuine interest in children’s wellbeing.

Desirable:- Understanding of Te Whariki (ECE Curriculum) and how nutrition supports learning and development.
- Experience working with multicultural communities and varied dietary needs.
Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week Pay: $27.00 – $32.00 per hour
