Seasonal Chef de Partie - Blenheim

We are Sisu Eatery and bar on the waterfront in beautiful Picton and we have an exciting job opportunity for a proven chef with experience cooking in quality restaurants and a great personality. This is a fixed term Chef de Partie role from November to Easter 2026.There is a potential of this role leading to permanent full-time role in the future.
With only less than 30 seats inside (plus outdoor seating weather allowing) we are a tight-knit operation. Our mission is to provide excellent experience in a laid-back environment to our customers. Our food is modern, seasonal small sharing plates.We draw inspiration from the nordics and use as much local products as possible. Our wine list is focused on small producers, and we have over 30 wines available by glass. We also have craft beer and an ever-growing gin list. Sisu is listed in Cuisine Good food Guide 25 as a Global destination.
You will be a key part of the kitchen team this summer focusing on hot side of the kitchen. You will to manage a service effectively and communicate clearly with your team members. All training will be provided when you start, and we can upskill the right candidate.As our eatery is owner operated, you will work alongside us and our small supporting team. We all work closely together and look out for each other s you will need to fit in with the existing team.
We are open for lunch and dinner six days a week so evening and weekend availability is essential. Picton being a seasonal destination the hours can fluctuate, 30 hours guaranteed, but more available during the peak of the season. Occasionally working on public holidays is necessary.
What we need from you:
- Good understanding of Food Safety plan and exceptional care for managing allergies.
- Ability to work independently unsupervised staying calm but quick during service.
- You'll need to be organized and tidy, as our kitchen is small
- Solution orientated mindset, can-do attitude and great attention to detail
- Be a great team member. You need to show respect and be kind to all others.
- Ability to follow instructions and comply with our house rules and procedures.
- You need to be fit enough to stand prolonged periods of time in heat of the kitchen and lift heavy objects etc.
- Proven experience working in quality restaurants minimum of 2-3 years. Experience in a senior position would be bonus, but happy to train someone who is ready to learn more.
- Excellent written and spoken English skills.
- Must have a current right to work in New Zealand. We are not offering visas for this position.
What we offer
$26-29 / Negotiable depending on experience- hour per week, fixed term contract
Rostered shifts over five working days a week
