The opportunity - Te aheinga

Then do we have the opportunity for you.

We are looking for a keen, motivated and self-driven apprentice to join our Horticulture Team.

In this role you will assist with keeping the district’s many parks and gardens beautiful and get to work at Green Flag recognised Pukekura Park and the Fernery. Weekend work will be required in the Fernery and Pukekura Park.

This is a four-year, full-time position where you will work towards a nationally recognised Level 4 Amenity Horticulture qualification.

Key responsibilities - Nga haepapa matua
  • Complete both internal and external training requirements
  • Ensure all health and safety directions and instructions are followed
  • Carry out horticultural work as scheduled or directed
  • Engage with the public and provide quality customer service
  • Ensure legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are met
Essential skills and experience - Nga pukenga me nga wheako
  • A willingness and passion to take the next step in a career in horticulture
  • High levels of self-motivation to keep on track with study requirements while working full-time
  • Full driver's licence for relevant vehicle classes
  • General fitness to meet the physical demands of the role
