This is an important role for the delivery of quality and effective public health engagement and communications for Te Manawa Taki.The primary purpose of the role is to lead public health communications including communications and engagement strategy development, internal & external communications, media responses, and reactive communications that align with national plans and messaging, while building confidence in NPHS as a trusted source of public health information across communities within the regions to reduce the inequity of health outcomes.
This role is expected to take a PIM function in a public health emergency response.This role has a travel requirement across the Te Manawa Taki region.About the Team/Service/ LocationThe National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention.We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.About youYou will be a highly experienced communications professional, with expertise in stakeholder engagement and public health communications.
Your understanding of the health sector, and established networks, will enable you to hit the ground running in this role. You are someone able to demonstrate mature communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present effectively, and to develop, unify and maintain strong internal and external relationships essential for achieving sustainable outcomes.Skills and ExperienceRelevant Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, marketing public relations or media management 5+ years senior communications experience in public health, the health or related sectors Experience in handling technical and clinical information Proven expertise in use of social media, and website platforms Experience in applying critical thinking, using sound judgment to develop options and knowledge of the machinery of government, and policy development, is preferable Demonstrable understanding of, and commitment to, the specific relationship under te Tiriti o Waitangi, and Health NZ's role in improving outcomes for iwi and Māori communities.
