Assisting residents with daily care needs and supporting their wellbeingMonitoring and ReportingHealthcare Assistants play an essential role in observing residents and reporting changes promptly.
Responsibilities include: Observing and reporting physical, emotional, or behavioural changes
Escalating concerns immediately to the Registered NurseRecording care provided accurately in resident documentation systems
Reporting incidents, falls, or health concerns according to facility procedures
Maintaining clear and timely written and verbal communication
Accurate documentation is essential to ensure continuity of care and resident safety.
Clinical Support DutiesUnder the supervision of the Registered Nurse, Healthcare Assistants may: Assist with repositioning schedules and pressure injury prevention
Support infection control procedures and isolation protocolsAssist with monitoring food intake and hydration
Support safe use of mobility aids and equipment
Follow established care plans and RN instructions
Healthcare Assistants do not perform clinical assessments or medication administration unless specifically trained and authorised under facility policy.
Housekeeping and Environmental ResponsibilitiesHealthcare Assistants contribute to maintaining a safe and clean living environment.
Duties include: Bed making and linen changes
Maintaining tidy resident rooms and communal areasSupporting infection prevention practices
Ensuring equipment is cleaned and stored safely
Identifying and reporting hazards or maintenance issues
Night Shift Senior Caregiver / In-Charge Responsibilities
At Amberley Rest Home, due to the 22-bed size of the facility, an experienced Healthcare Assistant may be rostered as the lead caregiver during night shifts.
When acting in this capacity, responsibilities may include: Coordinating caregiving tasks across the shift
Ensuring scheduled resident safety checks are completedResponding to call bells and urgent resident needs
Supporting other caregivers with workload prioritisation
Monitoring overall resident safety overnight
Maintaining communication with the on-call Registered Nurse
Escalating any clinical concerns immediately
Ensuring accurate documentation of overnight events
Supporting emergency response procedures if required
The Healthcare Assistant does not replace the Registered Nurse and must escalate any health or safety concerns in accordance with facility protocols.
