About the Role

Stratford District Council is recruiting for a Building Control Manager to join the team.

In this role, you will provide leadership and technical oversight to ensure Council meets its responsibilities under the Building Act as both an accredited Building Consent Authority and a Territorial Authority. You will be responsible for leading the building control team, maintaining professional and regulatory standards, ensuring statutory timeframes are met, and supporting a customer focused regulatory service.

This role is also the key technical leadership position for building control services, ensuring legislation is applied consistently, accurately and fairly.

This position is full time, working 40 hours per week, based at Stratford District Council, Miranda Street, Stratford. The 100% competent salary of a Building Control Manager is $149,000 per annum, with the starting rate based on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

About You

You will have extensive experience in building control or regulatory services, including strong technical knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and associated regulations. You will be a recognised technical leader who is comfortable making sound, defensible decisions in a complex regulatory environment.

You have proven people leadership experience, with the ability to lead, coach and develop a high performing team. You bring a collaborative and professional approach, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to balance statutory compliance with practical outcomes.

Experience working within a Building Consent Authority, maintaining accreditation standards, and managing audits, competency assessments and quality management systems will be highly valued.
