We have casual/locumopportunities in both our paediatric and adult teams.We are a dedicated SpeechLanguage Therapy team working to provide high quality evidence based clinicalcare and innovative practice in a fast-paced tertiary acute care environment.

SLT service delivery is also supported with the integration of a SLT Kaiāwhina (Allied HealthAssistant) in the team.

Our paediatric Speech-languageTherapy team provides a service to all paediatric clinical areas in the acutehospital setting, including paediatric medical and surgical wards, and neonatalintensive care unit (NICU).
Inpatient and outpatient videofluoroscopy (VFSS) ispart of our service.

We work within multidisciplinary outpatient clinics andalso provide individual outpatient support for children with swallowingdifficulties/dysphagia.

The casual role may cover any/all of these areas,depending on the successful applicant
  • s clinical experience, competencies andskills, as well as the needs of the service.Our medical/surgical (adult)Speech-language Therapy team provides a service to all clinical areas in theacute hospital setting, including, but not limited to; general medicine,general surgery, respiratory, stroke, neurology/neurosurgery, orthopaedics,cardiothoracics, oncology, ENT/head & neck cancer and critical care.
Instrumentalswallowing assessments, including cough reflex testing, VFSS and FlexibleEndoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) are embedded in our daily practice.The casual role may cover any/all of these areas, depending on the successfulapplicant
  • s clinical experience, competencies and skills, as well as the needsof the service.In these roles, you will be responsible for:Provisionof Speech-language Therapy services within clinical areas as appropriate toyour skills/experience and as required to meet service needsImplementingassessment procedures according to Speech-language Therapy protocols andprofessional standardsEstablishingand implementing treatment plans and interventions in consultation with themulti-disciplinary team, the client and their family/whānauEducatingclients, their family/whanau, and the wider multi-disciplinary team on relevantinformation to facilitate wellbeingAs these are casual/locum opportunities thedays/hours associated with these roles will be flexible to meet service needs.About YouWe are seeking an experienced Speech Language Therapist to join our team in these casual positions.
We would love to hear from you if you have the following skills:Knowledge and understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth Strong skills in the assessment and management of swallowing and communication disordersExcellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a supportive and reliable team member to ensure the best health outcomes for peopleIndependent management of a caseload and advanced skills in time management, prioritisation, flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly to meet changes in clinical demandsThe ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teamsAt least 2 years
  • experience working in the health settingExperience and competency in videofluoroscopy preferredExperience with Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) is desirableRegistration with the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists Association (NZSTA) and current Annual Practicing Certificate (or eligibility to obtain)Workingfor Health New ZealandHealthNew Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is
