  • ORL role is a rareand exciting chance to combine both clinical skills and leadership interest.
The role provides an advanced level of allied health care andexpertise both in direct care delivery and support to other staff to promote effective management and Speech-language Therapy practicewithin the speciality area of ORL; across Canterbury, Te Waipounamu andAotearoa New Zealand.
The Expert SLT
  • ORL works primarily in thearea of ORL (Voice, Head & Neck Cancer) with a focus on the delivery ofhigh quality, evidence-based care to patients across both inpatient andoutpatient settings.

The role involves working collaboratively within amultidisciplinary comprehensive care team and building strong workingrelationships with key external stakeholders.

Research, audit and thedevelopment of innovative models of practice are key elements of this role.

Thereis also an expectation to deliver clinical care to patients within thegeneral acute adult service as required, in line with prioritisationguidelines.In this role, youwill be responsible for:Providing expert clinical and professional practice and optimising the model of careAssisting the Clinical Manager in leading service planning and deliveryProviding clinical leadership and enhancing the culture of excellenceProviding directdelivery of a health care service including management of a clinical caseload primarilywithin ORL (head & neck cancer, voice and airway)Implementingquality improvement and patient safety initiatives to meet the strategic goalsof the organisationActing as a specialised clinicalresource providing guidance, advice and education to patients, whānau/family,students, staff and the interdisciplinary team across the designated serviceareasEvaluating clinical practice throughreflection, audit and outcome measures to continually improve the Speech-languageTherapy service to patients and whānauMaintainingadvanced clinical, cultural and professional standards and competencies acrossORLThis ExpertClinician role is equivalent to Advanced Clinician roles within the greaterAuckland area.About YouThe successful candidate willhave at least five years working within an ORL/head and neck cancerservice.

You will be have proven advanced skills in Flexible EndoscopicEvaluation of Swallowing (FEES), Videofluoroscopy, tracheostomy management,voice assessment and therapy, and Surgical Voice Restoration.
In addition, youwill have a proven track record in leading others and driving servicedevelopment.
To besuccessful in this position, you will also need to demonstrate the following:Demonstrated advanced skills in the assessmentand management of swallowing and communication disorders within ORL (head &neck cancer, voice and airwaySelf-awareness with strong reflective abilities and able to identifyareas for growth and developmentExperience with clinicalteaching/supervision, training and development of staffSelf-motivation, independent,with a high level of initiativeExperience inquality/service improvement and research activitiesCompetency with te ao Māori,tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and takingownership of your learning and growthFurther clinical competencies as per the SOA (click position description to download)Workingfor Health New ZealandHealthNew Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is
