The Excavator Operator is responsible for ensuring specialist plant and equipment which they are assigned to operate is presented, serviced, maintained and operated in a professional, safe and efficient manner, that complies with all relevant legislation, regulation and policy and achieves agreed productivity and quality targets.
**Operating Plant and Equipment:**- Ensure pre-start checks and daily moisture contents are carried out.
- Check the plant, equipment and environs for hazards and manage same to maintain a safe work place.
- Ensure plant and equipment is started, operated correctly, safely and all accuracies are maintained.
- Operate the plant and equipment in a correct and safe manner.
- Ensure plant is operated with consideration to the environment minimizing emissions of dust, gases and hydrocarbons.
- Work hands-on as part of the production team.
- Ensure equipment and yard is left clean and safe at the end of each shift.
- Reduce all forms of waste.
- Operates heavy excavation plant to excavate, move and load earth, rock and rubble preparing and positioning plant for operation
- selecting, fitting and removing attachments such as buckets, winches, loading scoops, shovel blades and rock breaking hammers
- operating controls to excavate, break, drill, level, compact, gouge out, move, load and spread earth, rock, rubble, soil and other material
**Nga pukenga matua | Important Skills**
**Requirements for the role:**- Full Class 2 License with WTR endorsements.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience OR an NZQF Level 4 Qualification (Skilled work experience can replace a formal qualification)
- Physically fit
- Demonstrated interest/experience in work that crew is involved in
- Keen and willing to learn
- Able to problem solve
- Team player; works easily with others
- Motivated to do a good job; reliable with a good work ethic
- Able to communicate with others; effective listening skills
- Keen to contribute to the team goals; self-starter and goal orientated
