Dementia Carer

The role is based in Onehunga. For immediate start – applications will be considered as they are received.

• assisting with daily and night-time routines
• neighbourhood walks
• assisting with personal care, e.g. hygiene, dressing, toileting
• meal preparation
• companionship through conversation and activities
• medication management (if required)
• assist with maintaining a clean and organised home, including housework, washing and grocery shopping
• Overnight cares (as and when required)
• Maintaining healthcare records
• Communicating with family and/or other carers about the person’s wellbeing and any concerns.

• Dementia care experience, preferably in the home environment
• No formal qualification is required, but you do need to be willing to undertake training and to follow the person’s care plan
• Genuine care and empathy for people with dementia, and an ability to understand this person’s particular needs and to respond with patience and kindness
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• The flexibility to work on a rostered shift basis, including overnight shifts (as and when required) and weekends, and to be available at short notice.

• Pass a drug test
• Undertake a NZ Police criminal convictions vet, and have no relevant convictions
