Weeping Hill Farms are a family owned breeding, finishing, and cropping business running approx. 13,000 SU. They are seeking a versatile farm manager for their 700 hectare effective property located 5 minutes from Ohakune, Central North Island.

They are pursuing someone with good communication, proven stock and pasture management skills, attention to detail, high animal welfare standards, and the ability to be forward thinking. Weeping Hill Farm is comprised of two blocks, one near Ohakune and one located 20 minutes away in Waiouru.

The properties carry Romney MA breeding ewes, approx 2000 hoggets are kept and 80% of terminal progeny are fattened with trading further lambs if the season is favourable. Approximately 600 head of traditional beef type trading cattle are finished.

Crops include swede/kale, lucerne, oats, and cash crop summer barley.

The property is made up of 10% flats, 40% easy rolling, and 50% hill country. Two-thirds of the property has reticulated water with further installation continuing. The farm has sound infrastructure with a main wool shed, yards and portable weighing facilities.

The farm manager is supported by the Operations manager who is responsible for the cropping/agronomy, fertiliser, harvesting of supplementary feed, and farm maintenance and development.

Key roles of the manager:

Planning and applying stock management and rotations to achieve production targets
Implement animal health programs and general day to day farm management
To manage casual staff and farm contractors (dagging, shearing, docking, conveyor)
To provide an overseeing role to the second property located at Waiouru where the head shepherd is located.

Contribute towards farm management planning and decisions. Will be required to provide regular reporting and recording of farm data

On offer is a villa style 4 bedroom home that has two fires, a heat pump, and a HRV system installed. The sun porch has uninterrupted views of Mount Ruapehu and the school bus is at the end of the road. Remuneration will be discussed with applicants that progress to on farm interview.
