  • About the Role: The Energy Markets Programme is a key initiative within MBIE, focused ensuring New Zealand has a secure and affordable energy system.

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the Programme Director in delivering a complex and high-impact workstream.

This is a fixed-term or secondment opportunity for six months, ideal for someone with strong project management expertise in the public policy or regulatory space and a passion for driving meaningful change.
You will play a central role in planning, resourcing, and reporting, while also identifying risks, opportunities, and creative solutions to support the programme's success.

You'll be part of a collaborative and high-performing team, helping to shape and organise the work programme and ensure delivery aligns with strategic objectives.

  • Skills and Experience Required Proven experience managing complex policy, regulatory, or strategic programmes within tight timeframes Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and tools across the full project lifecycle Strategic and analytical thinking, with the ability to translate ideas into actionable plans Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders Strong relationship management skills, including with senior leaders, government agencies, industry, and iwi/Māori Collaborative and team-oriented, with a willingness to share knowledge and support others Ability to identify and manage risk effectively Adaptability in a fast-paced and evolving environment Public sector experience is preferred A tertiary or professional qualification in a relevant technical field is desirable Must be a New Zealand citizen or hold the right to live and work in New Zealand Ētahi kōrero mō MBIE
