The Crown Response Office was established in September 2024 to coordinate and facilitate cross

  • government decision making and implement the Crown's response to the Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry.
The Office sits within the Public Service Commission.
The creation of the Office within a central Government agency was a key recommendation in the Royal Commission's final report, Whanaketia
  • through pain and trauma, from darkness to light.

Whanaketia included a number of recommendations focused on improving the safety of workforces involved in care settings, and the competence and capability of these workforces to identify potential abuse and appropriately respond to concerns about abuse in care settings.Budget 2025 included tagged contingency funding for care agencies to improve the safety and capability of the care system workforce.The ‘Building a capable and safe workforce' project is being established to progress cross-agency work in this area and will involve gathering information and doing analysis, engaging with stakeholders, developing advice for decision-makers, and ultimately progressing initiatives to improve the safety of the care system.The Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning of the Budget 2025 Workforce Development (cross agency collaboration workstream), enabling the execution, and delivery of the workstream.

In addition, the Project Manager will ensure that the workstreams are delivered on time, within budget, and meet agreed quality standards.The Project Manager role involves managing project resources, risks, dependencies, and stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose outcomes aligned with organisational and cross agency objectives.

The Project Manager role will also involve managing and supporting a cross-agency project involving care agencies and other stakeholders.Key responsibilities include:Lead end-to-end project management across all phases of the project lifecycle, from initiation through to closure.Develop and maintain detailed project planning documents, schedules, budgets, and reporting documentation, including regular cross-agency meetings and completion of agenda, minutes and agreed actions.

Identify, assess, and actively manage project risks, issues, interdependencies and mitigations.Manage and monitor project scope, timelines, resources, and costs to ensure delivery aligns with agreed objectives.Ensure quality assurance processes are applied throughout the project lifecycle.Build and maintain strong relationships with operational and policy leads from each of the care delivery agencies to establish and maintain the project.Co-ordinate with agency leads to support the management of resources across the project, including four FTEs funded through this project.Prepare and present regular project updates to sponsors, governance groups, and senior stakeholders.Align project outputs with current sector initiatives, fit for purpose commissioning models, equity goals, and relevant quality standards and / or legislative frameworks.You will ideally bring: Proven experience in managing complex projects or programmes in a comparable environment, for example: social services, or public sector environment.Strong planning, coordination, and organisational skills.Skilled in using project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira, or equivalent).Sound knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile, or PMI).Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability.Experience working with cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams.Familiarity with risk management, budget tracking, and reporting practices.Attention to detail and high quality outputsStrong written and verbal communication

This is a fixed term or secondment opportunity to 30 June 2026.

This role usually pays between $145,894
