Experienced Heavy Steel Fabricators/Welders
Due to continued growth and a strong forward workload across the North Island, we are expanding our structural steel team and are looking for experienced Fabricator/Welders to join our workshop in Whakatu, Hastings.
Patton Engineering LTD are a full-service engineering, design and construction company delivering structural steel, coatings, installation and mechanical projects across commercial and industrial sectors. Our pipeline is solid and growing — we need capable tradespeople who take pride in their work.
We currently have five full-time permanent positions available.
What You’ll Be Working On- Heavy structural steel fabrication
- GMAW & FCAW full strength butt welds (FSBW)
- Reading and interpreting fabrication drawings
- Rigging and moving steel using gantry cranes
- Oxygen/acetylene and plasma cutting
- Cambering and straightening steel
- Air arc gouging
- Workshop-based fabrication with occasional site installation work
Work is primarily based in our Whakatu workshop, with some travel to Palmerston North, Wellington and other lower North Island sites to complete contracts as required. Overnight stays may be required — transport provided.
What We’re Looking For
Essential- Minimum 5 years’ experience in structural steel fabrication
- Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings
- Experience in heavy structural steel
- Ability to pass a GMAW 4G and FCAW 4G weld test
- Physically fit and able – including able to work at heights and in confined spaces
- Can pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
- High personal standard of workmanship and safety
- Trade qualification and relevant welding certificates
- MMAW experience
- Forklift licence
- Rigging and gantry crane experience
- MEWP, WAH and SiteSafe tickets
You’ll need to be reliable, physically capable, and comfortable working to deadlines in a team-focused environment.
What We Offer- Full-time permanent role
- Minimum 40 hours per week (6:00am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday)
- Overtime and weekend work available from time to time
- Competitive pay: $30.00 – $33.00 per hour, depending on experience and capability
