About the role
Jump on board our deep-water fleet, a league of 12 fishing vessels operating year-round from Cape Reinga to the Ross Sea. Our deep-sea vessels can be at sea for up to 12 weeks at a time, catching, processing, and packaging seafood onboard, delivering the finest New Zealand seafood to tables worldwide.
Our deep-sea vessel San Granit is looking for a Galley Assistant to join the crew on its next sailing, due to Timaru on the 15th of June (subject to change due to operational demands). This is an Independant Contractor (self-employed) opportunity with a 6 weeks on / 6 weeks off contract — a great balance of hard work and downtime.You are paid for your time off.
Reporting to the onboard Chef, you'll assist with food preparation, dishwashing, laundry, and general cleaning duties. You will be responsible for the breakfast each day for the entire crew while the Cook is off shift. You'll help maintain a clean, hygienic, and comfortable environment for up to 42 crew onboard.Galley Assistants play an important behind-the-scenes role, supporting the wellbeing of the wider crew by helping ensure smooth day-to-day operations. You should also be prepared to assist with catering across multiple shifts — flexibility with hours is essential, as mealtimes vary depending on the vessel's operations.
Working on a fishing vessel comes with its challenges — you'll live and work with the same people for up to 42 days at sea, in all weather conditions while enjoying endless amounts of food, staying connected with Wi-Fi, and earning all year-round while only working 6-7 months.
About you:
To succeed in this role, you'll need to bring a great attitude, physical stamina, and a willingness to learn. You'll be someone who works well in a team, can manage your time independently, and is comfortable living and working in a close-knit crew environment for extended periods.
