Blackley Construction Limited is a long-standing, family-owned civil construction company based in Palmerston North. For over 65 years, we’ve been delivering high-quality infrastructure projects across New Zealand including:
- Excavation
- Drainage and pipe laying
- Telecommunications and power duct installation
- Civil infrastructure construction
Due to continued workload, we are looking for a Certified Drainlayer or Experienced Apprentice Drainlayer to join our team.
This is a hands-on role working alongside experienced crews delivering drainage and underground infrastructure projects.
The Role
You’ll be involved in the installation of drainage systems and underground services across a range of civil infrastructure projects.
This role suits someone who enjoys working outdoors, learning from experienced crews, and building a long-term career in civil construction.
The role includes skilled drainlaying, general site works, plant operating and labouring tasks, so a strong work ethic and willingness to get on the end of a spade when required is essential.
Projects may include:
- Stormwater and wastewater drainage systems
- Pipe laying and underground services installation
- Cable and telecommunications duct installation
- Utility service infrastructure projects
- Assisting with and carrying out drain laying and pipe installation
- Reading and working from plans and site instructions
- Digging trenches and preparing sites for pipe installation
- Installing pipes, fittings and drainage systems
- Operating hand tools and construction equipment
- Assisting with loading and unloading plant and materials
- Operating machinery where trained and authorised
- Completing daily plant pre-start checks
- Maintaining safe, clean and organised worksites
- Completing daily timesheets and site documentation
- Participating in toolbox meetings and risk assessments
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone who takes pride in quality workmanship and working as part of a team.
Ideally you will have:
- Certified Drainlayer registration, or
- Apprentice Drainlayer currently working toward certification
- Experience working in civil construction or drainage
- Strong understanding of underground services and drainage installation
- Willingness to perform hands-on labouring tasks
- Good health and safety awareness
- Experience operating civil construction plant
- Full NZ Driver’s Licence
- Class 2 licence
- WTRF endorsements
