Cook
We are looking for an experienced Cook in Nelson to join a busy kitchen by the beach.
Prepare, season, and cook menu items in accordance with restaurant recipes, quality standards, and customer preferences.
Ensure all food is prepared and presented consistently, maintaining portion sizes and plating standards.
Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including grills, fryers, ovens, and knives.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and workstations in compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
Monitor food inventory and manage supplies independently.
Store food properly and check product freshness, following first-in/first-out (FIFO) procedures.
Plan and prepare menu items, daily specials, and other dishes as needed.
Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines set by the restaurant and local authorities.
Work collaboratively with kitchen staff and servers to ensure timely and accurate order delivery.
Minimize food wastage through careful preparation, portion control, and proper storage.
Perform opening and closing duties as required, including setup, cleaning, and shutdown of kitchen equipment.
Job Requirements
(Must) Minimum 2 years’ experience as a cook or in a kitchen role.
Cookery course, Cooking certificate or training is a bonus.
Strong knowledge of cooking methods and food preparation.
Able to follow strict food safety and hygiene rules.
Can work efficiently under pressure and handle busy periods.
(Must) Reliable, punctual, and committed to the role.
(Must) Willing to work split shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Positive attitude and strong team spirit.
Able to stand for long hours and perform physical work as needed.
