Skilled Chinese Cuisine Chef Wanted

A well-established Chinese restaurant in Auckland CBD is seeking experienced Chinese Chef to join our energetic and professional kitchen team. This is a full-time position (minimum 30 hours per week) offering a pay rate of $30 – $35 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

We are looking for a skilled culinary professional who not only excels in authentic Chinese cuisine but can also lead, coordinate, and innovate within a busy kitchen environment. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organisational skills, be able to supervise kitchen operations, and maintain consistency in food quality and presentation.

Key Requirements
  • Minimum two years of proven experience working in a commercial kitchen specialising in Chinese cuisine, or a relevant qualification such as a Diploma in Culinary Arts or Cookery.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to manage and support other kitchen staff.
  • Creative approach to menu planning and recipe development.
  • Able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen.
  • Able to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays when required.
Main Duties
  • Plan, design, and prepare a wide range of authentic Chinese dishes to a high standard.
  • Create and implement new recipes in line with customer expectations and culinary trends.
  • Supervise and coordinate food preparation activities, ensuring quality, consistency, and timeliness of service.
  • Train and mentor kitchen staff on cooking techniques, presentation, and kitchen safety procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory, ensuring freshness and correct storage of ingredients.
  • Uphold hygiene and safety regulations in accordance with New Zealand food control standards.
  • Collaborate with management to maintain cost efficiency and kitchen productivity.
