These positions providehands-on experience in Urology, Vascular, and ENT, under the supervision ofexperienced consultants, offering an excellent opportunity to developsub-specialty surgical skills.2.0FTE Surgical Relief Non-Training Registrar Positions:Providing cover for General Surgery, Vascular, Urology, and ENT registrars whenthey are on nights, fatigue days, or on-call weeks.

This role is dynamic,allowing exposure to a variety of surgical sub-specialties, ensuring a broadand varied clinical experience.

These are non-training positions providing an excellentopportunity for Registrars seeking to gain experience across multiple surgicalspecialties, with a mix of focused roles and relief opportunities in a dynamicand collegial team environment.

We are committed to accommodating applicants'preferences wherever possible to support career aspiration and sub-specialtyinterests.It is our intention to change the roster next year, atwhich point you will be advised to participate in a 24/7 rotating Monday toSunday.Prior to change, you will work between 8.00am to 5.00pmMonday to Friday, rostering overnight on-call from 5.00pm to 8.00am, and weekendsfrom 8:00am Saturday to 8:00 Monday.

About the Team/Service/LocationThe General Surgery Department at Nelson Hospital providescomprehensive surgical services to the Nelson Marlborough region.
Thedepartment covers a wide range of elective and acute general surgicalprocedures, including gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, endocrine, andlaparoscopic surgery.

Key features of the service include fully equippedoperating theatres, endoscopy suites, and advanced diagnostic resources; acollegial team of General Surgery consultants, registrars, and house officers;and opportunities to gain experience across a broad spectrum of surgicalconditions and procedures.

  • s Urology service provides a range ofdiagnostic, elective, and acute care for patients with urological conditions, includingEndoscopic procedures, Ureteroscopy and laser stone management, management ofurological cancers, diagnostic urodynamic and outpatient procedures.

As aUrology Registrar, you will gain hands-on experience in managing acutepresentations, assisting in surgical procedures, and working closely withmultidisciplinary teams.The ENT service at Nelson Hospital delivers elective andacute care for a wide range of head and neck conditions, including ear surgery,sinus and nasal procedures, management of throat, voice, and neck conditions,Pediatric ENT care.

As an ENT Registrar, you will develop skills inclinic-based procedures, assist in operating theatres, and manage acute ENTemergencies.Nelson Hospital
  • s Vascular Surgery service providesdiagnostic and interventional care for conditions affecting the arterial,venous, and lymphatic systems.

Vascular Registrars will have the opportunity toassist in both open and endovascular procedures, manage acute cases, anddevelop skills in vascular imaging and diagnostics.

Thisnon-training post in the absence of a vascular fellow or dedicated vascularTrainee, offers an excellent opportunity to develop vascular technical skillsand gain experience in patient care under a guidance of an experienced VascularSurgeon and Vascular Nurse Practitioner.

You will receive hands-on training inward, clinic, and theatre skills, with the potential for increasing level of independenceover the course of the year.
About you:Provide patient care under consultant supervision, including in theatres, wards, clinics, and emergency settings.
Participate in the acute on-call roster, including nights and weekends.Collaborate across surgical teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centred careParticipate in the acute on-call roster, including nights and weekends.

Surgical relief registrars will provide cover across General Surgery, Vascular, Urology, and ENT services during registrar absence due to nights, fatigue days, or on-call commitments Skills and experienceEligible for an Annual Practising Certificateand General scope of practice with the Medical Council of New Zealand.PGY3 and above including prior surgicalexperience.Strong interpersonal and communication skills,with the ability to work effectively in a team.A commitment to patient-centred care andprofessional development.

ACLS certification (or willingness to obtainprior to commencement).Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reoMāori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of yourlearning and growth.Experience in projects / initiatives which giveeffect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application ofMātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply inhealthcare settings.Working for Health New ZealandHealth NZis
